A perfect unity ceremony for wine lovers.
The couple chooses two different wines and they each pour them into one glass to create a perfect blend. They then take a sip each from the glass.
This doesn't have to be done with wine though.
It could also be done with beer or other drinks so the couple 'blend' their own unity cocktail.
Or it could be done with different blends of tea.
Another good one for the wine lovers!
A bottle of wine is placed inside a box. Other special items or mementoes can be added such as love letters, a copy of the vows, photo's, items from the day etc.
The box is then sealed by the couple and will be opened at a significant later date as a special anniversary or occasion is celebrated. The wine can be drunk while reminiscing.
This is an ancient Celtic custom where the hands of the couple are fastened together with cords, ribbon or rope. It can be done with the couple, with children of blended families or in vow renewals.
In a show of unity as the hands are tied together, they become one family.
The lighting of two candles at the beginning of the ceremony are used to light one larger candle together towards the end of the ceremony.
It can also be used where two families are being blended and all the children can each have a candle and join in the ceremony to symbolise the unity of the two families becoming one.
The wedding rings are passed around your guests either at the beginning of or during your ceremony on a cushion, a bag or a basket so they can warm them and make a wish for your happy future together.
This is a great way to get everyone involved in your special day and it's lovely to get children or your pooch to carry them around to your guests.
An adaptation of an African - American tradition.
You can first sweep away the past before jumping over the broom into your new life together.
This is a Scottish tradition where the couple place their hands on the stone as they say their vows or promises so they become 'set in stone'. It's a lovely ritual for either a wedding or vow renewal ceremony and can also be adapted to involve children.
The stones can be from somewhere special, a place that means something to you both, they can have words of love written on them or the date when you met or your ceremony.
Stones can also be used to involve your guests. At the start of your ceremony, they can write a hope, wish or dream on a stone that you can keep and read later.
A lovely unique way to symbolise the joining of two lives or two families together.
Ones the different bottles of sand are joined together, they can never be separated and neither can the new family.
Glass is fragile, just like human relationships. We need to look after the glass just as we do ourselves and each other in order to stay as one.
This unity ceremony will take place at the end of the ceremony and as the glass smashes your guests will shout "good luck", "congratulations" or cheers.
The cup represents the cup of life and in drinking from the same one, you are symbolising your commitment to share everything that your future may bring you.
Whether bitter or sweet, they will be less bitter or more sweet if you share them together.
Traditionally done with Whisky but you can choose your own drink.
A lovely alternative to a guest book.
Guests take a tag as they arrive and write a message of love, or their hopes and wishes for your future together. They then hang them on the wishing tree for you to read later.
A lovely vibrant way to finish a heart warming ceremony that has been full of love and shared the couples unique love story.
A toast to what has been, what is now and what is to come.
Three cheers for a love that is built to last.
